Ooh, I know this one: there is an entrenched misunderstanding among some Neckbearded Men Of Computing that the day of year can usefully be called the "Julian Day". (I only found out this was an idiosyncratic use when I took up astronomy.)

Most food manufacturers use the Julian date code which you can often find as an unintelligent number printed somewhere on the pack. But the bbe date should understandle!

The standard format was on the burger package. This date was just on the included relish pack to be used for internal purposes with the manufacturer. Super common.
