Despite criticisms of this piece, the episode Dawn Foster describes sounds indeed unusual and distasteful. Way beyond the mere presence of flags in church. In general I’ve seen more state worship in US than UK churches. Establishment is about state’s answerability to the Church.

I haven't participated in a Remembrance Day service for 30 yrs. I'm a Mennonite & though also a left-wing Green, my aversion to conspicuous patriotism in church is shaped more by faith than politics. There's a strong antipathy to Constantinianism in Anabaptism.
