Just seen an absolute nuclear take, that Jesus, Mary & Joseph fleeing Egypt to escape Herod didn’t make them refugees but would be like “a Welshman moving from Wales to Scotland”.

It might be... if Mark Drakeford threatened to kill your baby and you had to flee his soldiers in the night.

Found a better one! “Er actually Herod’s massacre is historically debatable, so he’s still wrong theologically.” Calling the Gospels a big pack of lies to own *checks notes Corbyn, and Christians at Easter.

This is just a thread of bad religious takes on Twitter now. Glad they’re all so far about not believing people fled the country or a king massacred infants, but they’re all fine with a guy getting murdered, going down to hell to save a load of people, then coming back to life.

When you literally cite from a Biblical episode that says God's saving grace is available to everyone to dunk on Corbynpic.twitter.com/tznEUS1y1C

He heals the Canaanite woman's daughter next if you carried on reading, but attacking Corbyn's far more important than being correct yerself.

I would add another twist to this. If you accept the gospel version, sure: Herod had it in for baby Jesus. But remember how Mary and Joseph found out? Twas an angel in a dream. Good luck to anyone turning up at UK immigration with reason for fleeing = "an angel told us to!"

I bumped into Mark in the lift at conference in Dundee. He seemed like a very nice and modest chap to me. I can't imagine him ordering a massacre of the innocents of Cardiff at all to be honest.

But if he did.... would you welcome his fleeing subjects?
