Absolutely devastated to hear @LyraMcKee’s been killed while doing her job. Absolute senseless waste.https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/apr/19/derry-woman-killed-in-terrorist-act-say-northern-ireland-police …

Last time I saw her, she was working on her book which would have been brilliant, and she was dedicated to telling the stories of victims who get forgotten:https://mosaicscience.com/story/conflict-suicide-northern-ireland …

Hardest to bear is that she worked for years to break into journalism, which is incredibly tough & was in a great place thanks to a few breakthrough pieces that involved a lot of work but really showcased her talent and sensitivity. And all that potential is just gone in seconds.

Replying to @DawnHFoster
Yes rising star narrative ignores the years of work. She was so good and her work so detailed and she took care not to harm in her work, truly cared about ethics. This industry makes no sense. I remember when she was crowdfunding for her book. I hadn’t realised she was so young

Yes, exactly. Even when we first met back in 2014 she was working on this stuff, with the utmost sensitivity, and trying to find a place and make people care about the stories.
