1. I've noticed that Men I don't know pretty frequently write to me for help with professional things. They ask how I got my job or writing gig, if I have any advice, if I can share contacts, if I'll read something they've written, etc.

2. Depending on how much time I have, and if the person seems genuine, I try to help out. I even have some handy copy/paste-able advice at the ready. But I have almost never received a similar request from a woman. And I'm trying to work out why this is.

3. Is it because men are taught to be more assertive when it comes to career stuff? Is it because a man sees a woman doing something he would like to do, and subconsciously armed with a useful lifetime of gendered propaganda, thinks "if she can do it, I can do it."

4. Do men feel entitled to women's time in a way that other women do not? I'm not sure of the answers to these questions. What I know is that of the e-mails I get from strangers, the men's are (usually) berating me or asking me for help.

I think this is a lot of it.
@DawnHFoster was talking about getting v similar type of requests from predominantly men.1 reply 1 retweet 1 like
Yeah, I think a lot of it is subconscious annoyance that a woman is doing something they’d like to and are convinced they’d be far better at, and feel entitled to their time and energy.
