Ok, hypothetical scenario. Let's say in the not so far future there's a vote in NI, a plebiscite about joining the Republic. And let's say they voted Yes. And there's a vote in the Westminster Parliament to ratify, and it's predicted to be split, very narrow.

What then would happen, I suppose they'll be in one heck of a moral pickle. Recognizing the parliament they feel is illegitimate but achieving their ultimate goal? Or let it slip because of unionists?

This shouldn't happen. The Good Friday Agreement, as I understand it, means that the referendum would be binding. The same was true for the Scottish Referendum, the agreement between the UK & Scottish Govts made it binding, rather than "advisory" like the EU one
