Blue Labour here using the antisemitic pejorative “rootless cosmopolitan”. Guess you need to claim nation = home, else you can’t tell people to ‘go back to where they came from’.https://twitter.com/PaulEmbery/status/1114869646824562688 …

Well known if you lived in Soviet Russia 60 years ago. Pathetic clutching at straws here, nothing antisemitic in Paul’s tweet at all.
-
It's not from Russia, it's from 1930's Germany, I recognised the phrasing. You can be kind and say it was an unfortunate choice of words. But the fascist inference is there.

Well known? Maybe in your Guardian circles. Not in mine. Plus I didn't use it as a *phrase*. I used the words as *separate* adjectives alongside a string of others in a discussion that wasn't even about Jews or anything related to them. Absurd therefore to claim 'anti-Semitism'.

I fear this encapsulates the divide in our society - between a bloke who loves to pigeonhole anyone with a differing opinion as cosmopolitan elitist and the rest of the country that realises that labelling people isn't conducive to political discourse.
