And most people pay for eye tests and spectacles, but there’s government help if you’re on a low income or have “complex lenses”. My prescription is -14: everyone over -10 or +10 gets free eye tests and some money off the cost of specs (albeit only £19)

That still blows my mind since I moved here. "A cleaning/check up was that cheap???" It costs so much to get wisdom teeth removed in the US. I have a crown on one tooth and we had dental insurance in the US and the damn thing still cost 1100 bucks.

NHS dental checkup is about £20 but my wisdom teeth extractions were free after the diagnosis and referral. Children's dentistry is free. Dentistry while pregnant or up to a year after giving birth is free.
