Yes, a good possible reading too - either way

I always assumed she was talking to the ghost of her dead friend, rather than breaking the fourth wall?

yeah I saw that as him being literally in her head

Remember as a priest he speaks to invisible people too. I see it as a sign that he and she are on the same wavelength. By the way I think his name is Neil so he is telling her not to call him father but rather Neil.

It could be both, could it not?

If the next episode shows him to be, then OK. Otherwise, don’t let’s jump to conclusions just yet. This is TV exploring raw, messy humanity - and we’ve two more episodes to go. (And don’t you dare call me an apologist. Trust me, I’ve been there.)

I’m usually cynical, but I think that he’s just very like her-clumsy, direct, troubled, likes a drink, probably in the past promiscuous, & that’s why he’s attuned enough to notice her asides- he recognises her & that’s the attraction.

This is an interesting thread! They both seem unwell to me, but you think he's abusing her? They are both a mess. She desires him. He shouldn't crack, but he is just a man, he's not a holy person, isn't that the point?
