The Today programme also just used the term "Grand Wizards" with absolutely no pause to acknowledge it's a KKK term.

I would rather reference it to a Harry Potter storyline. Less upsetting or inflammatory.

But it has nothing to do with a Harry Potter storyline. It's a KKK term. They knew that when they chose it - as a 'joke', I'm sure. You might as well argue that the BBC shouldn't report murders, because they're upsetting.

To be fair it will be Harry Potter that will have been in what passes for their minds.

What's astounding is that it shows the Beeb's top news bods don't seem to find the moniker at all sinister. Hugely worrying.

Whatever they are, they are not grand and certainly not wizards. IMHO term should only be used prefaced by “so-called...”

The term was "Grand Wassicks" a Durham term for stupid men. It changed to "Grand Wizards" due to auto spell check.
