Astonishing about how much gynae pain and bleeding women put off when it’s serious or they’re pregnant because they’re so used to periods. 2 litres of blood in their abdomen before they collapse like

I only went to the doctors when I was fainting regularly, and my periods lasted 21 days and were insanely heavy. Had a laparoscopy, diagnosed with adenomyosis and the op was meant to last an hour, but took three because it was so bad.

Before my mum required quadruple bypass surgery her cardiologist had determined that she'd had 3 prior heart attacks that she'd just walked off. But I think most of that was b/c her male doctors ignored her discomfort and pain over the years.

I'm a guy with a chronic pain condition and I don't complain much either. I think it has to do with the fact that women (and people w/ chronic pain) experience pain so regularly that more often than not they're punished for mentioning that pain, so they just learn not to

though now that I think about it the cultural and institutional dismissal of women's (and especially WOC's) experience of pain is probably separate from the dynamic I just mentioned, tho it intersects with it significantly
