Foodbank visits in Morecambe increased 28% last year, and child poverty is 26.4%. Sneering that these people “must be important” for Corbyn to speak to them rather than march is a terrible look that shows real disdain for local politics and the ravages austerity has on lives.

If Brexit goes ahead, the poverty of Morecambe will become the norm across the country. By supporting the march by attending he could’ve helped prevent that. Saying the march was more important isn’t saying Morecambe is unimportant. It’s disingenuous to suggest that.

I’m talking about the sneering at Morecambe. As if visiting a local community is ludicrous, “these people must be very important!” is a literal patronising quote. As I said.

No one thinks it’s ludicrous, of course it’s important for politicians to visit communities and understand how policies impact on lives. But this is about once again Corbyn fudging and obfuscating, trying to straddle all positions at once and failing to show any leadership.

Morecambe, to the best of my knowledge, will still be there tomorrow. As will their concerns and need for support. Singling our a few sniffily-worded tweets while ignoring the gaping lack of leadership seems to be wilfully missing the point.

Why this day? Why now? Any other day. It’s shoddy leadership, no clarity, constantly avoiding critical decisions &standpoints whilst hoping platitudes and soundbites will cover it up. Irrespective of any other consideration, he just can’t fulfil his job role as a leader.

The local elections have been scheduled for a lot longer than the People's Vote March, as far as I know, and most of Corbyn's brand is based on listening to and engaging with the little, personal stories that characterise local politics.

Nobody is sneering at Morecambe. Just stop trying to make enemies and division where there doesn't need to be.

Are people sneering at Morecambe or making the point that Corbyn chose to pretend the biggest march of recent times wasn't happening? The former would be horrible but I think it was the latter.
