One of the most damaging fallouts of Brexit has been the media creation of the Leave/Remain dichotomy as an identity of two extremes, when opinion on the EU is a spectrum. It’s easier to shift views on a spectrum: but when you cast it as a war of identities, people hunker down.

I have lots of problems w/ EU, but voted Remain, and think the biggest problems within the EU are right wing govts, & Britain itself. I’m dead against Lexit cos Brexit is a far right project & leaving the EU will do nothing but harm the UK. But I get called a Lexiter constantly.

The stupid binary referendum itself created that dichotomy. Thanks Dave

And Nick. The LibDems supported referendum. Only Ed Miliband & @UKLabour reject the idea of an EU referendum

I think part of the problem is the decline of circulation figures for newspapers and viewing figures for news broadcasters. This potentially results in more extreme headlines in order to grab the attention of consumers and gives the impression that the extremes are the norms.

Yes; we all know the EU has many imperfections and needs reforming but to voice that opinion in the current poisonous atmosphere opens one open to cries of "See, see, remainer changing mind" or "Traitor" from the 2 extremes

What exactly needs reforming? This is the problem I have with the reform camp it's usually kept as some nebulous ideal in the same way leaving was. What specifically needs reforming and how should it be reformed?

And when subversive forces are spending serious money pushing ‘No Deal’ on SM with links to MPs, and then charlatans like @Nigel_Farage can say ‘polls are showing majority want No Deal...’ #StopBrexitpic.twitter.com/KjN0MOAhq3
