Except this wasn’t an “op-ed” - I read it in school and understood that then despite not having GCSEs: it was an excerpt of his speech in two pages of news reporting on ithttps://twitter.com/MarinaHyde/status/1084744247532814336 …

Hahaha. on another note, I'm sad people forget we had a column by this guy in 2004 when Seumas Milne edited the comment pages https://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/jan/06/terrorism.comment …

(Think we might have been on about different things as this wasn’t in two pages of news reporting - very possible we did run extracts from other speeches in that format though)pic.twitter.com/9PliuqTIpz

Who knows - but clearly the people replying to you read it as you saying he’d solicited OBL’s thoughts when that clearly was a misrepresentation https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2016/04/thin-controller …pic.twitter.com/IuChiNlTvl

but Dawn, we both know we can't be responsible for how people on the internet react to things that aren't meant entirely seriously.... especially people who reckon you could have got hold of Osama easily in 2004 if he'd contravened the Style Guide with his spelling of al Qaida

I have a fair idea of how people will take messages when I post them. And if they’re completely off the mark, I’ll correct them. We obviously use Twitter entirely differently!

Marina is a professional satirist, almost every post has a level of irony. I think very few people thought she meant that Seumas Milne actually commissioned OBL to write for the Guardian, but his presentation of it in the comment pages gave the impression he wished he had.
