The most brilliant girl at my state secondary applied to Oxford to do English Literature and they asked why she hadn't studied ancient Greek. She didn't get in.

I got taken on a special open day, where they took the kids with the highest grades from a bunch of state schools. I got food poisoning. Then I found out it cost extra on top of UCAS to apply, so didn’t bother.

Applied to a bunch of Irish universities instead, then chose Warwick over Trinity because they offered a bigger scholarship.
