For the record, “would you like to go for a drink?” works much better than stating whether or not you’d rape me, a fact few men seem to understand.
These messages r horrible & immoral, but what is the value in sharing them? They lack substance. They do not edify, b/c we all know internet insults r common. Is it possible the only value in sharing is to give pro-censorship forces more control over what we see?
And then when we don’t share content like this, we are accused of exaggerating or simply lying that this is the reality of day-to-day existence for many of us.
Letting liars or "shock & awe" commentators control the dialogue is almost as bad as leaders who corrupt the public thru half-truths & distractions. The way to fight illiberalism is to actually be liberal--w/ its ups & downs, highs & lows, haters & lovers--& show a better future.
Having being raped, having been threatened to be raped, having been sexually assaulted and having had 'jokes' directed at you about raping you, interesting discourse & reflections on the value of demonstrating liberalism in particular instances isn't a luxury all of us can afford
Matthew: it’s not your decision. Women are accused of exaggerating their abuse constantly. Stop telling women what to do.
If we want to solve online bullying by something other than "block" buttons, isn't one option to increase taxes from both genders to create a new internet online police called the ASN? Or r we going to cut social welfare programs to increase police resources on this issue?
