it's one of the ironies of the show that Mulder is ready to believe in anything but God (I don't think this is an accident; anyway there's an episode where the existence of the Christian God is more or less proven, so Scully is objectively right in the show's universe)

There’s some real crappy misogyny too, early on, but he grows out of it in the much later series
