Just had an incredible row with a posh guy in Clapham, where I told a homeless guy I had no cash but if he wanted anything in the shop, I'd get it. He asked for a can of Stella, I got him two, and the bloke tried to grab them off me.

I have a relatively easy life and feel I "need" a glass of wine and a fag, if I was on the street my god, a beer would help.

I've always argued the point that if I/others were seriously hard up in the way some people are a beer/smoke/etc would be an almost necessary relief from everything.

It certainly is no surprise that there is a high correlation between homelessness and drug addiction. If I had to spend every day being abused and every night cold and afraid, I would probably take it all away with any chemical I could find.

Once I was stopped by a homeless guy outside a bar in the Upper East Side, he said he wanted $ for a beer, I said I had no change and he said that's fine, he could change a twenty, and I thought that was hilarious and gave him a twenty.

It makes me so angry when people spout crap about what you can and can't do for the homeless. They won't do a thing about it themselves, but will tell you you're wrong for buying stuff/giving money. It's like they believe that homelessness excludes them from being allowed things

I heard this in a queue last night. Some woman virtue signalling her giving of cash to a homeless person "who seemed to have five different pairs of decent trainers". Now homeless people aren't allowed decent shoes. FFS.

It's the same concept with food banks for me. We always put biscuits and sweets in our donations because I know a biscuit or bag of crisps might be the only pleasure that person gets. It's basic human decency, IMO.

Make sure to include an ingredient list so they can sort it properly. The best thing to give is fresh vegetables, fruit, or bread. They can make much better food with that, then canned donations. And now that I’m typed this out I realize I’m thinking of a soup kitchen
