    Three years ago Mobike was a bike sharing concept, run from an office next to a communal bathroom. On Wednesday it was sold with a $3.4 billion valuation. , and I look at its crazy ride & why investors are burning billions on bicycles.

    Well. That was a quick war. Time for tea?

    We are not in a trade war with China, that war was lost many years ago by the foolish, or incompetent, people who represented the U.S. Now we have a Trade Deficit of $500 Billion a year, with Intellectual Property Theft of another $300 Billion. We cannot let this continue!

    Quick hot take on the the US and Chinese lists of tariffs today. 1. US list appears to be chosen to diffuse the tariffs across a wide variety of products. I saw one number that the largest individual import on the list was a little over a billion USD. Conversely Chinese list 1/n

    Some realpolitik: Trump’s tax cuts for companies & manufacturing job push could take years to manifest into major changes on the ground. But China’s responses could be felt in his key supporter states much sooner. An interesting game of chicken.

    Some more details on the Meituan/Mobike acquisition: The deal will value Mobike’s equity at about $2.7 billion, Meituan will assume roughly $700 million in debt. 65% in cash, mostly to Mobike management, and 35% in stock, so Mobike investors will become Meituan shareholders

    iQiyi had to educate the West on why they should buy into the Chinese video streaming market. Its CEO did over 200 private investor meetings to do so. On Thursday the market responded by slashing more than $1.5 billion off its market cap.
