The vast majority of Taiwanese are descendants of mainlanders, who migrated in waves over many centuries. Only a subset are descended from the 1949-era Chinese. There are also aboriginal Taiwanese — a much smaller minority. (Lots of intermarriage among all groups.)
I'm just thinking that those whose (great)grandparents were pre-1949 might have a different attitude from the 1949ers' families.

There were several waves of immigrants, season workers in Dutch ruled era, refuges during the falling of Ming empire, landless peasants seeking lands in Qing dynasty. None of them spoke mandarin. My family came to Taiwan in 18th Century the time modern China isn’t formed yet.
