David Staples: Court decision on TMX pipeline a spectacular win for Canada — and its First Nations

“Many First Nations support major oil and gas projects like the TMX pipeline. They would be thwarted in their aspiration to rise from poverty to prosperity...” —- Canada and Alberta do not move forward without the First Nations sharing and participating in our economy.

Australia’s number one export destination for thermal coal? Yep, Japan. Now that market is only getting bigger. No chance of Australian thermal coal mines losing customers. That is unless Japan turns on existing nuclear over new coal. The climate can’t afford more coal.

  6. TMX pipeline decision a huge win for economic reconciliation, for Indigenous people hoping to prosper, for our resource sector & economy. The court gives a path for projects to proceed. It rebuked those who only seek to delay, protest and litigate to death major projects.

I'm pleased to hear that the pipeline expansion has cleared this legal hurdle.  Rachel Notley has worked tirelessly to explain the benefits of this important project to Canadians, from coast to coast to coast.

Another win on the pipeline for Alberta! Pleased to see this unanimous decision by the Federal Court of Appeal to reject this challenge. Now let’s get it built.

This is good news for Alberta and for working Albertans. I was Proud as Premier to have worked tirelessly to keep this project in play.

The federal court of appeal decision in Trans mountain case (Coldwater) is profoundly affected by the recent Vavilov decision - paras 82-83 show emphasis on deference to decision of Governor in Council and admin-law-type analysis

Colonial courts upholding colonial laws. Shame on Canada. Power & solidarity to Indigenous land defenders. This pipeline is will never be built.

  14. Federal Court rules TMX can go ahead, dismisses challenges by Indigenous groups. I've been predicting this decision for some time. and federal Liberals did great work in this round of consultations, after Libs failed in first attempt.

Wait, why didn’t Japan follow Germany’s lead and try to replace its nuclear plants with renewables instead of coal? Oh, right:

Good for the Trudeau Liberals backing down or clarifying the plan to license journalists. Hey, we all make mistakes. The key is how we respond when our error is pointed out.
