If Hillary Clinton had won in 2016, Donald Trump would be on Fox News every day screaming voter fraud and trying to instigate a coup, House Republicans would already have impeached her, and the GOP Senate would still be blockading her SCOTUS nominees.

There is no going back to normal and there is no compromising with them, at least until a MAJOR realignment occurs. There is only doing whatever is necessary to defeat them within legal and constitutional parameters.

And the thing, that would be true even if we *didn't* face monumental policy crises. Add urgent economic and environmental crises to the equation, and we can't afford to spend time dithering with "let's all unite as one America and encourage compromise!" fantasies.

We're not headed toward civil war or breakup of the country--but that's only because the country is going by sheer force of numbers to slowly drive the modern Republican Party into near extinction as it is in California today. Just a matter of time.

But the notion that Trump America and Blue America are one nation divided by fake partisanship is laughable. I commend Obama for making the effort. Really I do. But that ship is long sailed, and anyone trying to hoist those sails again is wasting their time.

If we have to kill the filibuster, let's do that. Expand the courts? Go for it. Add Puerto Rico and DC to the union? Great. Expand voting rights? Sure. Whatever it takes to speed up this process. We don't have time to wait and we don't have a real negotiating partner in the GOP.

A lot of very silly, arrogant conservatives reacting to this thread with empty threats of civil war or various misogynistic and other slurs usually behind cowardly anon ccounts. Guys....literally no one cares what you say. Liberal tears gave way to cold determination long ago.

Hey MAGA types...I know it's feeding pearls to swine, but if you care to learn more you can read here:https://prospect.org/article/democratic-party-divide-about-theories-political-power …

A lot of MAGAs protesting "but my opinions! I won't follow your laws!" Listen carefully kids. You know how liberals, women & people of color had to obey your laws and pay taxes for your wars and stuff for decades? It's like that. You're not special, and your guns are irrelevant.

This has happened before. The whigs disappeared. After the civil war there was no pro-slavery party. No party still pushes the gold standard. The GOP will adapt or die. It's called realignment and it has happened many times before.

And no, we don't have to respect your opinions. You don't think climate change is real, but you do think tax cuts pay for themselves and that Jesus is coming to burm your enemies in fire. You know how you feel about NAMBLA or scientologists? It's like that. There's no point.

You're a shrinking minority of public opinion, and your views are actively repugnant to science and basic morals. So...you know. It's just a question of how to get around you to fix the country's problems without actively causing harm under the law and the Constitution.

Y'all think this country belongs to you by default. It does not. You have to earn a political majority just like everyone else, and you don't get a violence veto.

The funny thing is that this whole thread wasn't even directed at conservatives at all. It was a subtle reprimand of Beto and Biden. But the MAGA crew is way too clueless to understand that.
