  1. I cannot overstate how much riling people up with conspiracy nonsense pisses off people who have been working for the betterment of the world in much-maligned institutions, whether the dem party or otherwise. I get that a lot of folks feel that any engagement is good, but.../2

  2. Bernie folks hate being compared to Trumpies and for good reason. How dare a bunch of bourgie normie libs condescend to the oppressed who just want a better life, right? The problem, though, is the wink & nod at conspiracy theory garbage in service of rabid engagement. /1

  3. Bernie is the frontrunner for the same reason "ok boomer" hit the popular lexicon. People under 45 are tired of this and are insisting on a better, very different world from the one we have been told we must live in.

It’s sort of a tell that the people who complain the most about “the DNC” cannot correctly identify which things the DNC is and is not involved with.

Let’s be clear about something: There is no evidence — none, zero, zilch — to suggest the results of the Iowa Caucuses will be in any way inaccurate, and people suggesting otherwise are irresponsible.

  6. That's not a conspiracy theory. That's just the terrible reality.

Levelheaded competence is an underappreciated asset.

  8. In short, a message to state party chairs: FUND YOUR INTERNAL DEMOCRATIC PROCESSES. The investment is worth it in the long run.

  9. And then you get 22-year-old hotheads who don't know better accusing 75-year-old democracy club vols of being in it for the corrupt cash & other silliness. Amplified by twitter/podcast shock jerks who do know better, spreading the same stuff to build a brand off the gullible. /7

  10. And now everyone who doesn't know how shoestring this stuff is thinks there's a conspiracy, because they think of the Party as a billion-dollar pseudo-corporate machine, so how could this happen? They don't understand this is all done super cheap on the backs of vol retirees./6

  11. There's a whole long conversation about balancing national and state resources--remember Dean vs Emanuel? But the states really need to spend more resources on internal processes if we want to build trust and engage new/young activists. The IA Dem Party clearly scrimped. /5

  12. The other problem is that the average observer has no idea the difference between national, state and county party organizations. People mouth off about the "DNC" as if the party were like Coca-Cola and everything was managed from corporate HQ in DC, which is laughably wrong. /4

  13. It's doubly problematic when you have folks like Steyer and Bloomberg dumping hundreds of millions, and when the party takes corporate PAC money. Why shouldn't they have money?? The answer is the money isn't fungible. Too much in some pools not enough in others. BUT.../3

  14. The problem is that if the parties are going to be telling outsider activists to join and engage with and fundraise for the Party, then the internal processes become all that much more crucial. If for no other reason than building trust. /2

  15. Generally speaking, state parties underinvest in resources for internal election processes, setting more aside for actually winning elections. This is a constant sore spot for outsider activists who think the incompetencies of underfunded volunteer processes are a conspiracy. /1

  16. Starting from last night, by 4pm and a team of 10 volunteers and I could have plugged all the numbers from precinct captain cell phone photos into excel and tabulated 100% of results for all 3 data sets. Wtf is going on.

Everyone, let’s take a moment to a) Breathe & b) Thank all the hardworking volunteers, canvassers, field staff, and folks who have worked so tirelessly on the ground. We will get IA results. Let’s appreciate everyone who worked so hard & share a message of gratitude for them. ⬇️

  18. In all respects--from the app to the number of people able to take results over the phone--it's clear that the party dramatically underinvested required to run the caucuses.

  19. Not wanting to be a part of conspiracy theory nonsense culture is a big part of why i went from bernie 2016 to warren 2020. Not really a policy thing.

  20. There is no mass proletarian revolution coming. We have a very deeply culturally divided electorate that isn't going to expand and whose contours are set. Young people are pissed off, the planet is burning and democratic socialist policy is the right policy. You're welcome.
