37) Mind you, I’m not entirely hostile to some of the ideas contained in libertarianism. I do value individual rights and initiative and think they’re important. I just believe they need to be balanced with the values of communitarianism and empathy and basic decency.

I feel you. Early in adulthood libertarianism was very attractive for the focus on liberty for the individual but as I grew up I realized there was no corresponding recognition of the responsibilities and duties of a free citizen.

I've seen several people make the point that libertarianism is all about protecting the factory owner's individual right to oppress his employees. Then again, IIRC you're one of those people, so it's probably not a revelation :)
