I don’t think he gains - but it fits a pattern for the Norks
-
-
The pattern has been broken, it was broken when Trump agreed to meet. Kim has to put up or shut up. They stand to loose more backing away than US does at this point. Trump will win if he walks out almost as much as if he stays.
-
Yes they have more to lose but agreeing to the summit did not break the pattern - probably enhanced it
-
Only if you believe Trump will fold for ego sake.
-
It's not just about Trump. His policy in general toward NK has been good - his assurances he would walk if he didn't like the talks is good. But giving KJU the prestige of a POTUS summit was a questionable move - especially based on how NK operates. This summarizes my thinking
-
Well I have never quite understood the "prestige" thing when it comes to diplomacy. FDR aligned with Stalin to fight Nazis, Nixon met with Mao to "open" China, etc. Far worse actors historically. I hope you made the same argument with Obama and Raul.

NK is a failed state, one thing for sure failed states eventually......fail. Only hope is China keeps propping them up. I think China has bigger goals than keeping NK as a thorn in our side. You can't be the leader of the Pacific region when everyone hates you.
