Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza years ago but has still had to contend w/ ongoing attacks from the territory, that aspect seems to be glossed over in coverage of the conflict. (It helps explain Netanyahu's durability in otherwise very volatile Israeli politics) =>https://twitter.com/benshapiro/status/996391164365365248 …
Both sides should be held to account. Often only one side is.

And how do you hold them to account when you deny them nation-state status? The traditional ways of sanctioning deviant behaviour from established international law and norms becomes problematic in application.
-
The PLA/Hamas have turned down multiple opportunities. Recognize Israel's right to exist a majority Jewish state and give up right of return & there's a deal to be had on negotiated borders. Until those two things happen, there will not be any deal.
-
You betray the virtue of objectivity by only apportioning blame to one side. The fact that the Palestinians live in a perpetual state of a humanitarian crises is not enough punishment? And yes there has been punishment meted out to previous Hamas activities.
-
I apportion blame to each side when it's deserved. I think it's been too one sided in the other direction.
-
Is it too much to expect the more powerful, way more, to exhibit a greater sense of morality in prosecution of war and conflict.
-
Putting aside your argument who has exercised more morality in this conflict, I think you hit an important point. In fact, I think both should be held to the same standards, vs. putting more on Israel because they are more powerful.
-
I do not think that either the US or Israel will derive much advantage in strategic geopolitical schemes of it were to prosecute war with disregard to what they stand for, it diminishes their influence and threatens the current hegemony.
-
Disagree on a lot but really appreciate your feedback. Come again.

By the way, how has Israel been credibly held to account?
-
The UN, the Europeans, and most of the American press holds Israel responsible even when they're not. Sometimes they are but there has not been even-handed treatment.

They've paid in copious amounts of blood, they've paid in lost territory and the accompanying loss of culture and identity. The list their right to self determination while your ilk give them the right to exterminate a population.
