This is the Republicans' dilemma. They want to run on the economy, & even at an event held specifically to promote tax reform, Trump turns it into all immigration all the time...

...Now the counter will be: How do you think he won? And the answer is: An immigration riff won't help the GOP hold the districts that could cost the GOP its majority (the red districts that like this message are presumably safe.)...

...It's about emphasis. I'm not arguing POTUS' immigration policies are a problem. I am arguing that his emphasis on immigration, over the economy, plus his tone, won't help, & probably hurt, where the House is being contested...

Basically, put yourself in their shoes. Your kids school is now 50% non-english speaking/third world. You can't go to park or movies without feeling like you're in a different country. Is an extra $100 per month nice? Of course. Is it what you're going to vote on? No.

And lastly, the upscale people who would just vote for Trump because of strong economy, they're going to turn out and vote for him no matter what he talks about. To win as many seats as possible, make the election about immigration, trade and the national interest. Will work.

The risk for the GOP is that people don't show up. No one who voted for Trump is going to vote Dem. He's done everything he's said he would do. Have you met anyone who voted for Trump who's unhappy? I haven't. I think working class Trump voters will show up. But yes, we'll see.
