His plans did call for cutting domestic spending. Those have now been tossed into circular file.http://www.crfb.org/papers/promises-and-price-tags-preliminary-update …

Trump's campaigned promising to eliminate the $20 trillion national debt - Trump also promised to eliminate national debt in eight years - other than that, sure he never talked reducing spending

Steve Hayes pretending to be the adult in the room when the Republicans he preferred to Trump wrote this bill is absurd. Steve had nothing negative to say about the bill, at all, until after it was passed. Now the only negative he can think of is that Trump signed it. Clownish

It is not the spending that is so bad, though it is bad, it is what was in and not in the spending. I am not big on the border wall thing though I do want to slow down illegal immigration, but if they can't defund PP they're lost.

He campaigned on draining the swamp and building the wall. Is that in the bill? No, I don't think so.

So cutting taxes and increasing spending leads to deficits? Who knew?
-
Deficits are good though when it's spending to reinvest in education, healthcare, job training.
-
To a point. A point we are well past. Government spending makes sense in time of recession. In times of prosperity, as in now, you pay down the debt. Spending should have been cut. Taxes should have been raised
-
A point we are well past? Our debt is 100% our GDP, the interest in $400 billion ... Let's compare that to Japan, where their debt 255% their GDP, weird they aren't melting down yet right?
-
I’m all for investing in education and infrastructure- but to do so by adding to the debt during a time of economic prosperity is irresponsible. We need to make choices now - we can’t have it all and low taxes
-
Argh, *eating my cap* we couldn't have had a more opportune to spend over the last 6 years with interest rates being next to zero. Instead we practiced austerity to cut the deficit in half, a lot of good that did us.
-
I agree. But that time is past. Interest rates are rising, economic prosperity abounds - now is NOT the time to spend.
