One doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the other. He looks at each deal as a one-off. In politics & gov't, everything is connected. He doesn't always operate as though he gets that.

i mean obviously i dont know his internal thinking either but i would think the more likely scenario is that the guy who does multi million dollar deals internationally & rose to the highest office on a foreign-policy based platform probably "gets" a little bit of it

I didn't say POTUS was an idiot - I said doesn't appear to get this 1 thing. (Bush implemented steel tariffs too, I don't think that was right just cuz wasn't Trump) Plus I regularly offered critical analysis of Obama (ie. Iran deal) despite how smart he is given elected prez

I mean (I don't like the comparison but..) did MacArthur land and Inchon because he just "didn't get" that he was supposed to break out of the Pusan perimeter and march north the normal way? or because he thought his way was better

I'm not arguing that Trump doesn't think his way is better and has his reasons, I'm saying his reasoning is faulty & not better. I'm not criticizing motives or saying he's not a thinking person.

since obviously its #2, aren't you assuming that 1) you know more about the economy than a guy who has been famous for making economic deals for 40 years & 2) aren't you also assuming that his goal is exactly what he says in plain language before a negotiation that it is?

The idea that I can't offer critical analysis because I have less experience in the arena is not compelling. I offered plenty of critical analysis of the last admin's foreign policy despite having less experience in the arena, & I don't think that fact DQ'd my analysis

if your point is "I think this is a bad idea and this is why" then great. if your point is "I understand international business better than Trump and here's what he's missing" then i think you're kidding yourself a little

OK, we disagree. Plus I didn't criticize his international biz skills. I criticized his understanding of geopolitics & that is different. I also criticized Obama's understanding of geopolitics, despite his vastness of experience in the arena over mine.

lol you were sitting there talking about how he only sees deals as isolated one offs when really they're all connected. is that not a commentary on his business acumen? And you are more qualified to deal with geopolitics now than Obama was in 08, I have no doubt of that

No, that was not a comment on his business acumen at all. Not in my opinion. (Iran deal came at end of Obama's tenure - was my critique of that deal unfounded? Clearly Obama knew more & was more experienced than me.)

you are talking more about Obama than Trump. I have no idea why. I would rather you had been President in 16 than him though. The results would have been better
