One doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the other. He looks at each deal as a one-off. In politics & gov't, everything is connected. He doesn't always operate as though he gets that.

i mean obviously i dont know his internal thinking either but i would think the more likely scenario is that the guy who does multi million dollar deals internationally & rose to the highest office on a foreign-policy based platform probably "gets" a little bit of it

I didn't say POTUS was an idiot - I said doesn't appear to get this 1 thing. (Bush implemented steel tariffs too, I don't think that was right just cuz wasn't Trump) Plus I regularly offered critical analysis of Obama (ie. Iran deal) despite how smart he is given elected prez

I think its much more likely that he's a rational actor pursuing a goal of his own in the way that seems best to him than it is that he just doesn't understand the way that these things could be done or are regularly done
