Tempted to call it the Chai Tea Party. Or maybe Green Tea Party.
-
It's symmetric with her first Dem convention as a statewide candidate in 1990, when she pronounced her support for the death penalty, delegates booed loudly, and her strategists happily filmed it for a campaign ad.
-
The breathless descriptions of a "stunning rebuke" and "huge loss" this a.m. make no sense. No one thought she'd get this. No one. And her opponent put all -- of the precious little resources & $ he has -- into winning the endorsement.
-
Perhaps. But having watched anti-Establishment fervor engulf both parities, I’m more circumspect than in past. She still wins, at very least because of top two, but I wouldn’t necessarily dismiss this as immaterial.
-
The lesson of 2016 is to be circumspect about everything. Still, the party itself is more left than most Democrats, to say nothing of indies/Republicans who also get to vote in November.

What's telling is that she is too "moderate" for California Democratic Party. Another big reason we have Trump.
-
Yes. Now, this is also the Dem version of restless anti-Establishmentism prevalent in conservative circles. But yes.
-
No it is the anti-progressive sentiment in conservative base that created the unrest on the right to begin with. The failure of the establishment GOP to take it seriously and the dismantling of Americanism as the result, gives you Trump. 1/
-
The idea that this is a "political party" feud with both sides having their internal struggles against establishments is shallow. It is in fact a fundamental ideological civil war to determine the future of America. Both sides grassroots understand this, not the media.
-
I don’t disagree w/ you but I also think there’s a some anti-Establishment sentiment for its own sake, because of a perceived failure of leadership generally...Conservative rebels said the problem was too much moderation...

He's not running, but do Republicans with whom you speak see a statewide future for Faulconer, or just too big a hill to climb for any R?

If Democrats have enough Central Committee candidates to force elections for those in all districts, we will be able to break down candidate share of Dem partisan vote w. complete accuracy. I expect KDL runs ahead of her among Ds, but she has lead due to everyone else.

The mistake here was the state party convincing DiFi to run again just to try and stave off an expensive primary. Should have let her retire, expensive primary be damned. Now we have an expensive primary anyway and DiFi probably wishes she had just retired in the first place.

Sad to see where California is heading. They will have regrets.

Correct about the top-two primary. Perfect example of how it neutralizes the influence of the extremes.
