Do the upscale think of themselves as rich?

even the rich don't think of themselves as rich but key point -- decent amt of data showing concern abt income inequality is highest in the top quintile (ie 80%+) which may look even worse on tax cuts for wealthy

Prosperous voters that do very well but are not independently wealthy view themselves as middle class. And in fact, if they stopped working they wouldn't be able to support their lifestyle. Most don't get this because these are people that do very well.

These
#s don't take into account "cost of living". Compare 2 ppl: Person A makes $200k living in Orange County, CA & saves $30k after taxes & mortgage. Person B makes $100k in Little Rock, AR & saves the same amount. One is considered "upper middle & rich". Reality says no. -
Not sure cost of living is as significant a marker as cultural/lifestyle opportunities. It’s how your A & B can (and do) choose to spend discretionary $$ that matters.

There's a reason that certain places are expensive and others are cheap. Geography can be a luxury good.

AND in the case of the modern Democratic coalition, being culturally similar and comfortable. Hoarding in the big cities and now their suburbs.

Not sure what to make of that: when do you think this type/form of sorting first began? A Raisin in the Sun is based on lived experience. Neighborhood nicknames weren’t invented yesterday.

That's not ironic; it's the point. The GOP's traditional "upscale" base gets nothing from this bill. Benefits mostly go to top 1%
