Even 10 years ago, but definitely 20 years ago, a party leader saying a nominee wasn't welcome would doom his campaign. Not anymore.
I said "a" party leader not "the" party leader. And my point is correct.

i dont think Gerald Ford saying someone ought to step down in the Fall of 79 would have doomed anyone. Ditto for LBJ after he announced he wasn't running again. Weak leaders are weak, that's nothing new
