EVERYONE knows this is a horrible way to handle the DL - risks financial calamity.

They do a great job of making themselves look like fools, if you ask me. And R's had already caved on 2 offers, according to reports.
-
I wasn't absolving them of all criticism. Hell I've beaten the heck out of them pretty good.
-
R's gave the whole thing away by saying they'd raise debt ceiling no matter what. After that all Dems have to say is "no" to everything
-
EVERYONE said this. But for some reason you're blaming only Cong. Rs. Saying this does not equal giving away leverage.
-
if they actually wanted leverage they'd say they dont need to raise the limit at all bc it only affects discretionary spending
-
They can't say that because they don't believe that. Financial markets don't either, incidentally.
-
if i were to negotiate with you, and i started with your position, what am i negotiating from & what towards? they started with agreement
-
I'm not being argumentative but I honestly don't believe that's required for good negotiating. I look at it more like buying/selling a house

Not first offer. He could of had 6 mon or year, but that would have interfered with military funding. Also, why trust McCain, Collins, Flake
-
I'm not criticizing the offer per se. But it was the Ds first offer.
-
@POTUS has freed up 90 days for tax reform, so no excuses and I can't see Christmas vacation being delayed over CR and debt limit battle. -
Still a time crunch. Less leverage to use on other stuff. Rearranged deck chairs.
-
This may very well be Trump's precedent to a deal to fund the border wall. Will be interesting. "Things, they are a changing"

And they sold him on ACA repeal & replace and Tax reform. They're just looking for political cover.
-
He sold himself. Saw how potent O-care repeal was during campaign & adopted it. Knows tax reform could spur econ growth, so adopted it.
-
They stoked it after he was elected and needed him to drive it thru the House then he let the Senate fall flat on its face.
#Itstohard -
They've made plenty mistakes & not letting off hook but Trump is liable for his part in the fiasco. He blew it too.
-
He's not blameless. Blaming him for everything is lazy journalism. Interesting that he's exposed some fault lines in national politics

I don't like the deal. However, Repubs do all those things on their own!
-
What do they do on their own? The whole point of winning the WH was to increase their leverage.
