Nonetheless, still can't force them to pay for the wall. And they won't.

http://money.cnn.com/2016/09/01/news/economy/mexico-peso-money-transfer-trump-remittance/ … bottom line is that Mexico literally depends on that money. Trump has all the cards
-
Remittances? Unclear that plan can be made to work legally. And MEX could respond by deepening ties to China. Don't assume
-
if them deepening ties to China involves millions of Mexican illegals leaving here for there I think that's a Trump win
-
Trade & military ties, not exactly win 4 us. I'm not saying Trump shouldnt renegot NAFTA, etc Just that we're paying 4 wall
-
Mexico gets more money from US remittances than from oil. Its their biggest "export" & they can't get it from China
-
Countries don't always act logically & there is plenty they do w/ China that we wouldn't like. That's my point.
-
well its certainly true that we can't guarantee that they will act rationally
-
That's the broader point I think gets lost when people think about geopolitics. ... Good discussion.

We're about to re-negociate NAFTA, they will end up paying for it one way or the other way and I think they know it
-
That is not paying for it. But it will be described as such.
-
not saying that's what should happen but we can certainly force them to do it, if we want
-
We could also force them by invading. The point here is what is possible & what makes sense.
-
you said we "can't" force them to pay. whether its a good idea to force them is a separate issue, i thought
-
Agree two sep issues. I was assuming w/in normal bounds.
-
i was just saying that negociations always favor the party who "could" make something happen.
-
Not if the other side doesn't have to fear certain measures. Last admin proved that.

Trump could freeze Mexican assets in the US if he wanted. Could raise the transaction fee on wire transfers to Mexico, etc
