Just watched a clip of Trump’s riff on U.S. Grant. Was Trumpian, but it was quite complimentary & in line with what I’ve read in Ron Chernow’s “Grant.” Calling Lee a “great fighter” was a bit cringe-worthy, rhetorically. But POTUS was using as context to laud USG’s success.

Well, Lee was a great fighter. He was universally lauded up through FDR's admin. FDR dedicated monuments to Lee and the General was seen and should be seen as someone who worked for national and racial healing postwar. He wasn't a racist.

Are you saying Lee wasn’t a great military general, that Grant defeating him wasn’t a great accomplishment? Please enlighten us on your history

Because a proctologist makes a comment about meat it’s automatically wrong? Why are we arguing this stupid point, he was actually correct about the history. Lee was a great military commander, it was a great accomplishment for Grant to defeat him? What are you missing?

But even if you hate Trump it’s a logical fallacy to assume everything he says is innaccurate, you must see that?? He was actually correct in this instance.

It's Trumpian stream of consciousness blabbermouth soup. Yes, it was generally about Grant winning, but with Trump insulting him as a drunk and praising Lee. As usual, Trump says both things so people can interpret how they want to and he can complain about being misunderstood.
