This is a corollary to my observation that voters don't want politicians w/ courage necessarily, but rather pols w/ the courage to stand up to the people/policies they happen to disagree with. =>https://twitter.com/DavidMDrucker/status/1047953008561143809 …
I agree with this. I could have included but was just cutting to the chase of when they're not convinced. But this is true.

not saying Trump is always right or that leading is always popular, but when the politician leads and actually proves their point, the results are taken for granted instead of as an amazing victory. see also: welfare reform in the 90's or the ramp up in bombings under Nixon

P.S. I wasn't referring to Trump but just pols and voters in general.

yeah i hear you

I hear you but then that also means that voters want politicians who lead on issues. Building consensus is part of leading. Look at this NAFTA thing for something that everyone laughed at Trump for but in 10 years it will just be "of course it had to be renegotiated"

100 percent agree. My main point is that sometimes they reject where a pol tries to lead them. And if a pol insists on doing something he/she thinks is right, & voters just don't agree, the pol's political courage is not rewarded.
-
well that's true but why would you reward a courageous moron? you might as well say "every medical journal told him not to, but Dr Smith injected the patient with poison anyway, killing them. He is therefore promoted to Chief of Medicine!" You want a mix of right and brave
