Kudlow overseeing tariffs & trade war he doesn't believe in; Bolton overseeing a Russian reset & North Korean detente he opposes. Reminders that presidential advisors don't make policy, presidents make policy.
...and nevertheless backing up his boss. This is to be expected, happens in all administrations. But I was making a point that is often overlooked: People often reassured by advisors shouldn't be. POTUS makes the decisions & often over objections of internal dissent.

I think it's obvious that Trump expects loyalty once the decision is made but I appreciate that he actively engages others, listens, & seems to get energy through the dialectic, if you will. I think we can point to instances when he has in fact changed his mind on certain issues.

Sometimes. Afghanistan is one of those.

Afghanistan, Certifying the Iran agreement twice, Aborting Omnibus veto. Actually, if the Dems weren't 100% obstructionist, I think we would have seen bipartisan immigration, healthcare, & gun reform by now. Trump isn't an ideological R & not afraid of taking on his own party.

I'd quibble on some of this but who knows. (On Omni - Trump was a party to the deal and wanted to back out after he agreed, so the fact that he kept his word doesn't really count to me as changing his mind.)
