...Come to think of it, if only voters would reward a political party that believed in reforming entitlements.

Social Security can be fixed with very minor tweaks. First one, raising the cap from it's current $127,200 to $500,000. How many people even know there is a cap?
-
The political lift on this is enormous. The only way it gets fixed is for a president to go on television one day & tell the country there will be no more payments. Then people will wise up.
-
The first thing is is to not lie about how badly off the program is. It's not going bankrupt, again, it's very minor tweaks to fix it. There is so much dishonesty & propaganda around it by people who hate that it exists. Again, how many people know there is a cap?
-
Any changes are viewed suspiciously by voters and opposed by elected policy makers for fear of losing.
-
Agree, especially changes involve privatizing the program, they're viewed very suspiciously. Bush's privatization tour, which he never ran on in 2004, was a total disaster in 2005. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A35231-2005Mar14.html …

Don't worry, there is no political will in Congress or the White House to make any major changes to entitlements.

you call benefits from my contributions for 40+ years an “entitlement”?pic.twitter.com/uWRrHuP5Pk

If it's an "entitlement" then I think it is entitled - how do you "reform" taking other people's money?
-
You are entitled to it because you paid into it.
-
You're not entitled to more than you put in though--that's why it will run out of money.
-
It's hurting for money because people are living longer and fewer people are contributing because we're having fewer children.
-
That's no different from what I said!

If only tax revenues had an impact on government solvency.

"Entitlement"? I f#@&%ing paid for it (still paying for it), clown.
-
That is what entitled means. It means you earned it. But the GOP's decades old war on that word has convinced you that entitled is a bad word meaning getting something for nothing.

Just increase the income cut off on which payroll (Social Security) tax is applied.
-
It's hilarious that this tiny simple change would fix it completely and yet no one mentions it.
