I agree with you as to the real world - but this discussion arose in the context of discussing a novel (where the main character, admittedly naive, doesn’t heed the warning signs & eagerly goes to work for the fictional judge in the end).

Sure, but this isn't speculation, this is a thing that happens all the time, every day, to real people, and saying "well, I just wrote it as a little creepy" is..I mean, when I read some dude's fictional representation of "this is a little creepy" it still reads like harassment.

Much of the time, anyway, I shouldn't make a blanket statement. But most men have a seriously miscalibrated notion of what's "just a little creepy" and what's actually fucking horrifying.
