Thanks, @FelixSalmon; next time I'm asked for #AdviceForYoungJournalists, I'll send them your post: http://fus.in/1AVxxQD
.@leepacchia @felixsalmon We talk often on @ATLblog about the challenges facing young lawyers, but journalism is even tougher I'd say.

@DavidLat@leepacchia@felixsalmon as a former journalist turned law student, I agree. At least top law students seem to have opportunities. -
@patricksouthern@DavidLat@felixsalmon don't know enough about J school and j school debt to be dangerous...I wonder how it compares to law -
@leepacchia@DavidLat@felixsalmon at least w/ law, some students graduating go make six figures. Nobody’s doing that out of J school. -
@patricksouthern@DavidLat@felixsalmon exceedingly few get those jobs. But almost all law school grads have serious debt. -
@leepacchia@patricksouthern I don't think six-figure law jobs are that hard to get as long as you go to the right law school & do decently. -
@DavidLat@leepacchia@patricksouthern They're definitely harder to keep long-term than to get! -
@GirlsGuidetoLS@leepacchia@patricksouthern True! But as you & I (and many others) demonstrate, there is life after#Biglaw. -
@DavidLat@leepacchia@patricksouthern Indeed there is! Thankfully.

@DavidLat Having done both, I can say the rewards in either profession still make them worthwhile, if you find the right place to work. -
@mpreusch Both can be rewarding, but making a living is a bigger problem in journalism. It's a great field if you don't care about money. -
@DavidLat Sure. It's one of the reasons I made the jump. I was lucky to land in another job where I still get to learn new things every day.
