An impressive lineup of witnesses for #SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh: legal celebrities (Amar, Clement, Olson), diverse individuals, and... a D.C. real estate agent! So, why are the 2 male law profs acknowledged as “Professor” but the female law prof is “Ms”?

I have no idea, but I can't see any reason for it. It's not full professor vs. not; both @jennmascott & @adamjwhitedc have the same title (assistant professor) at @GeorgeMasonLaw. Jenn or Adam, if you have any idea why, feel free to chime in!

I am completely guessing, but I would imagine they left off the professor designation in my title since I’m testifying as a former clerk who happens to also be a professor. The other former clerks are listed Ms/Mr like I am.

Ah, that sounds totally plausible (since Adam clerked for a different D.C. Circuit judge). But still, if I were at @SenJudiciary, I would have used your title. ;-)

Quick counterpoint: I’m guessing they did not want to inadvertently create a false impression that I was testifying in an impartial scholarly role if someone just quickly glanced at my name and title. I’m very happy w how I’m listed. And, of course, thrilled to testify for BK. :)

I’m having a hard time imagining any circumstances under which a male prof or MD, even one who was testifying as a personal character reference & not as an expert, would not be called Professor or Dr.

Indeed. Akhil Amar and Lisa Blatt might soon be getting the "Dershowitz in Martha's Vineyard" treatment (if they're not already receiving it).
