Can someone who actually practices Federal criminal law please give us the guidelines recommendation on Manafort's convictions before journalists and instant Twitter lawyers tweeting out the max penalties cause my head to explode?pic.twitter.com/xzoBtpACT0

The
@WashingtonPost also cites legal experts pegging Paul Manafort's sentencing guidelines range at around 7-10 years:https://wapo.st/2PxyIAa -
And even in Michael Cohen's case, with a plea agreement, there's a dispute on his sentencing guidelines range (relating to the complex grouping rules); see
@domarkus's excellent analysis: http://bit.ly/2Mtiji0 -
Here’s a thread about it if you don’t feel like clicking to the blog:https://twitter.com/domarkus/status/1032098988756033537?s=21 …

Calculating Paul Manafort's sentencing guidelines range could be affected by grouping too (as noted by
@PwoodsNY), plus what will count as "relevant conduct" (see@renato_mariotti) - so the upshot is, "it's complicated" (but NOT good news for a 69-year-old). -
Yes, it’s too complicated for us to calculate without more information.

How much weight, if any, can Judge Ellis give to his previously expressed belief that the only reason Manafort was prosecuted was to pressure him to flip on Trump?
-
Officially, none. There are no adjustments in the guidelines for "this was a selective prosecution." That's also not, to my reading, a statutory sentencing consideration under 18 U.S.C. 3553(b). But Ellis can take it into account unofficially several ways, if he really wants to.
