I "retract" this tweet, based in part on my misunderstanding of #Senate procedure (which @StevenJDuffield clarified), but adhere to my view that Ryan Bounds was smeared (& I'm working on a detailed analysis of his old college op-eds to show he's no racist).https://twitter.com/DavidLat/status/1020033573276078080 …

Do you know who the front runner is for the O’Scannlain seat now?
-
I don't - and I wouldn't expect a new name for a while, given the
#SCOTUS process heating up. -
True. Well I’ll take solace that we just confirmed Oldham who is wonderful. And of course Kavanaugh...
-
This week shows how diverse judicial nominations can be. One nominee (Oldham) was confirmed at 39 to a Circuit judgeship and will likely be a front runner for SCOTUS under the next GOP POTUS. The other (Bounds) was slandered and withdrew his nomination in disgrace.
-
As a few others have mentioned, I believe Bounds suffered greatly from not having a Republican home state senator to advocate forcefully on his behalf. If he happened to be from GA or NC I believe he is on the Court today.
-
Indeed.
