I suppose if you’ve only been there for a year, it’s the same people voting on you that voted for you for the circuit seat. So it could be an advantage that you have an idea of your base of support. But a few senators might say you’re qualified for the lower post, but not SCOTUS.

Roberts had a ton of experience at the SGs office and in private practice before the court. Barrett isn’t in that position. This is much more like Thomas.
