Not sure if McCain can travel, but if not, can his absence create a quorum problem?

Good question (also posed by
@hurricaneaiken); I’m not sure. -
So apparently McCain's absence WOULD create a quorum problem (see Const. Art. I § 5 - VP not a "Member[]") - but in that case, McCain could step down &
@DougDucey, Republican governor of Arizona, could appoint a successor who'd vote.http://bit.ly/2IPRFcJ -
In the end some red state Dems will vote yes they know if they don't their political career is likely over

Any chance that this administration screws up their vetting and nominates a Souter?

Crazy political calculus involved here. Dems might *want* confirmation before election so it doesn't motivate the GOP base.

Mitch McConnell did warn Democrats about ending judicial filibuster and he's making good on that warning. Unfortunately Democrats don't seem to have learned their lesson. There is talk of Court Packing. What would stop Republicans from packing the court when they take back power.

McCain isn’t in DC so the GOP only has 50 correct? Or would Pence count?
