David, I was almost in tears. As an immigration lawyer I have waited years to hear a speech like this. Truly outstanding. Will you be publishing the full text of your speech somewhere?

Thank you!

David Lammy, it was black people who sold other blacks into slavery. You are either ignorant of our history or intentionally misleading people. Either is unforgivable given your position as an MP for ALL British people. You need to apologise to your constituents.

I think you’ll find it was African slave traders who sold them into slavery. It was the British, eventually, who predominantly ended slavery, although it is still widely practised across the globe.
-
So let me get this straight, you invade a foreign land and plunder it's resources, kill and colonize it's people. And after 400 years, you are saying that you were forced to buy about 12 million of its people as slaves. White people are the 8th wonder of the world.
-
Aren't they amazing? Can look you in the face and actually say the result of their genocide and plunder and somehow declare it is all your own fault.

How are the current British population responsible for the wrong doings of our ansesters.

Not what he's saying. He's saying 'British' wealth - or more exactly the wealth of the ruling class - has its foundations in slavery.

Dude you really need to read up more on what the Brit’s inflicted as economic ruin in the name of *your* industrial revolution on the then Brit colonies! Will bring some much needed enlightenment.

I'm always impressed of how much the Consumption Revolution is neglected in the analysis and debate about the causes of the Industrial Revolution in England. The role of foreign demand, Empire, and of domestic demand, consumption, should be more central

I've done some case studies on continental demand for english coaches/carriages and why global competition drove British innovation in design and marketing

David 1. It was your ancestors that suffered, not you 2. It wasn’t my fault, I wasn’t around then 3. The Romans enslaved my ancestors, I’ve managed to get over it Yours looking forward, not backwards GP
