A college graduate that seems to not understand that you have to pay PART OF THE LOAN PRINCIPAL every month in order to pay a loan down. Crappy college, worthless degree.

This really highlights that colleges need to be partially on the hook for students that can't pay off their worthless degrees.
-
Yes. I believe that a HUGE part of the college cost / loan problem is that the universities only ever gain, never lose, have no incentive to hold costs down, and are completely separated from the market forces of risk.

Bingo! Few people remember that tuitions skyrocketed about the same time the government got immersed in the student loan business .
who else saw the writing on the wall when that happened ? -
Exactly

Apparently, you will never read the terms of the contracts you sign either. I sure hope you went into engineering, finance, law, or medicine but I somehow doubt that.

That said, My generation was pushed into college from all angles. Trade school was heavily stigmatized. They made a lot of uninformed choices at an impressionable age and got worthless, useless degrees simply because “they were supposed to go to college”.
-
No one ever thought to suggest getting a manageable degree to me. I was given a career test came up with “interior design” and “model/actress”. I was brought up acutely aware of debt and told I was on my own, so I went into the medical field.

THIS. My biggest issue w/ the whole thing was that the Government set up the loan process and the whole game became a loan sharking scheme. We were all shown posters of a hobo and a guy in a business suit with big letters that said "WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER BE?"
-
We women weren’t shown either lol! I went on loans and scholarships, majored in math, got a masters in economics and one in city planning, worked and paid off loans in a few years. I went to state schools.

I got a job and paid my off. Caregiving for a husband, and raised our son all at the same time!
-
It can be done.

-
No offense, Barbara, but you look at the very least 60 years old. College tuition costs have raised by 260% since you went to school.
-
None taken, Chelsea. I didn’t start back until I was close to 40. I am 65. Loved my work and I paid off my student loan even after my husband passed. I believe in taking care of obligations. I still work part time teacher.
-
That’s great. College tuition still has raised 5.64% per year since 1990 which would be around the years you attended. I believe in taking care of obligations as well, but the cost to attend university coupled with interest rates is ridiculous in 2019.
