    Everyone I know in who’s 65+ has already received a COVID vaccine. Rollout there has been impressively smooth & well-organized. Couldn’t be prouder of trail-blazing Israel. Meanwhile, here in New York, it’s been a far cry till now from the Israeli experience. Why?

    Chiune Sugihara, born in 1900, was a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania in WW2. Acting on his own — w/ help from his wife, Yukiko — he issued visas that saved literally 1000s of Jews fleeing Nazi Germany. He exemplified the best of humanity. Our gratitude should be eternal.

    Bravo, Israel—world’s leader in rate of COVID vaccinating. Meanwhile, US proportional rate is less than 1/10 Israel’s! Why? And, unlike our Israeli family, we know zero about scheduling plans. What happened to US, which led in vaccine development, as a leader in vaccinating?

    I keep staring at Liesbeth, age 5. I just can’t begin to grasp how human beings could knowingly hurt, much less kill, a child. How anyone could engage in such barbarism & bestiality. How Nazi Germany could mobilize so many to participate in genocide. A warning for all time.

    Slippery slope of Nazi antisemitism: It began w/ grisly words, maniacal conspiracy theories. Then restrictive laws. Then genocide. 1.5 million Jewish kids murdered, incl. Liesbeth. Please don’t forget her face. And let’s never forget humankind’s capacity for such evil.

    25 December 1937 | Duch Jewish girl Liesbeth Prins was born in Amsterdam. In October 1943 she was deported to and murdered in a gas chamber after the selection.

    NYTimes headline 12/26/91: Soviet Union came to an end. Founded in 1917 in the name of communism, it was highlighted by 1-party rule, Great Terror, Gulag, Holodomor, expansionism, failed economies, satellite states. Tens of millions arrested, murdered, exiled. Good riddance!

    Historical appropriation on steroids. Jesus was a Jew. I repeat, Jesus was a Jew. Trying to turn him into someone else to score political points offends faith traditions, borders on the grotesque. If anything, Jesus & his family would be called Israeli settlers by critics.

    If Jesus was born in Bethlehem today, he would have a Green ID. Being from Nazareth, Joesph and Mary would have Blue IDs. Jesus would need an Israeli military permit to visit his family or go to Jerusalem. This is Israel's Jim Crow and tiered segregation. Merry Christmas.
