One of the most frustrating things about gamergate was how it appropriated the questionable practices of game journalists with outright far right racism that has taken a huge grip on the gamers because of how poorly educated they are on actual industry issues.

If I recall, the reason why it was an issue was because of a concern with fair reviews. There is a lot of ass kissing between devs and journalists, I've seen it myself. Of course these guys hardly care about that and it's more about tiddy in games and blatant bigotry lol

So basically, the actual concern was, why are these people who have an obvious relationship with each other in a business relationship which can greatly impact sales? Again this was pushed to the side almost immediately but iirc this was the actual, initial concern.
